Holland BPW Still Sees Park As Best Location For Water Plant
|
|
In its October 22, 2002 edition the Holland Sentinel reported that the Holland BPW
still considers Saugatuck Dunes State Park as the best location for a water intake
and treatment facility. They are investigating bore technology, saying that it would
enable them to avoid tearing up the park.
As we have noted before, bore technology for the pipeline does not address
the problems of the pumping station, access road, and treatment plant;
however, we are pleased that they are acknowledging at least one of the
many concerns of Concerned Citizens for Saugatuck Dunes State Park and the
DNR.
The article also reported that Holland and Laketown continue discussions
about the possibility of working together. It quoted David Swan and mentioned
CCSDSP as an organization dedicated to preservation of the Park. It also
reported that, thus far, the DNR opposes Holland and Laketown's plans.

We wonder why Holland continues to pursue the park even as they say that expansion
of their Tunnel Park Plant is an option. If this all sounds familiar, it is! We have
reported all this to you already, but wanted to let you know that it has now been
announced publicly.

Volunteer
|
|
We now have five working committees of volunteers, including a Call Me! Committee
for those who want to help, but on an on-call basis only. See the
Organizational Meeting Report,
September 17, 2002 for details.
Email
swanswan@i2k.com if you would like to volunteer. Clearly, our fight to keep a
public utility from destroying our park is far from over.
