Two Statewide Organizations and the Clean Water Fund
Have Come to the Defense of Our Park!

At our Informational Meeting on Monday, April 29, at Saugatuck High School, Concerned Citizens member Tom Leonard, who is also the Executive Director of the West Michigan Environmental Action Council, made the following announcement:

"West Michigan Environmental Action Council, since last summer, has opposed the location of water intake infrastructure in or adjacent to Saugatuck Dunes State Park. It has in fact favored the expansion of the Park. Tonight I am able to announce that in addition to WMEAC, the Michigan Environmental Council, the Michigan Land Use Institute, and the Clean Air Fund [a national organization] have decided to work cooperatively and coordinate their efforts to make sure no intake plants or pipelines are located anywhere near the Saugatuck Dunes. Concurrently, they will support expansion of the Park."

"This is welcome news!" said Alison Swan, co-chair of Concerned Citizens. "These groups bring a wealth of experience and considerable resources to this project. Please join WMEAC. It doesn't cost much and remember, joining Concerned Citizens is free. Spearheading this collaboration is just one of the many ways that Tom and his colleagues at WMEAC are working hard every day to protect the natural resources of West Michigan."
