Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance R-4 Zoning Petition and Survey
|
|
The Saugatuck Dunes
Coastal Alliance (SDCA) is circulating a petition to support Saugatuck Township Officials
in upholding the current R-4 zoning. The more signatures on this petition, especially
signatures of Township taxpayers, the more convinced the Saugatuck Township Officials
will be that they have the support of their constituency in maintaining low density for
this precious landscape.
Would you please 1) sign the petition 2) get your friends and neighbors to sign the
petition. The petition can be
signed and submitted online
as well, and you can also make additional
copies to pass along to friends and acquaintances from that link.
In addition, the SDCA is circulating a questionnaire which will help gain insight into
the community’s knowledge of and feelings about these issues. Please take a moment to fill
out the questionnaire and either mail it back to the SDCA, or
complete it online
and submit it. And please tell others about the questionnaire so we will have
good participation & perspective on the communities' way of thinking on this.
Below is a script of suggested talking points which provide a little more prospective on
the need to protect & preserve the landscape at the mouth of the Kalamazoo River and the
Ox-Bow Lagoon. Several people that have just gone out and talked with their neighbors just
with what they know in their heads and their hearts, and they easily came home with ten signatures.
You can do as well or better.
The deadline is May 10, 2008. Please get all petitions and questionnaires back to the SDCA
online or mailed to them at POB 1013, Saugatuck MI 49453.
SCRIPT
"I’m ____________________, your neighbor, and I am a volunteer for the Saugatuck Dunes
Coastal Alliance.
We are concerned about protecting and preserving our dunes and other natural resources here
in the Saugatuck area. I have a petition for you to sign if you would like to join in
communicating to the Township Board our desire to enforce existing laws that protect our
natural resources. We have the laws to protect our natural resources, but it will take
informed and active citizens to be sure that the laws are enforced. I also have a survey,
which will help us gain insight into the community’s knowledge of and feelings about these
issues.
You don’t need to convince anyone, or turn those opposed into supporters. You are just
gathering the existing support and perhaps informing the uninformed.
Many, many thanks for doing this!!
