Allegan County Supports Well Water Project for Fillmore Township

According to a Sentinel article which appeared in the Friday, March 12 edition, Allegan County commissioners unanimously gave their support for a project to supply water to portions of Fillmore Township. The project, to be funded through a bond issued by the county's Department of Public Works, includes a 3 1/2 mile pipeline connecting two wells and a branch line to supply a number of Fillmore Township residents.

Test wells were driven to determine the viability of ground water sources. The results show an adequate supply of good water and now all that remains is for Fillmore Township residents to give the project their Ok for it to proceed.

Laketown Township has often invoked the water needs of Fillmore Township in justifying their bid to construct a water pumping and treatment facility within the grounds of Saugatuck Dunes State Park. Laketown officials have frequently responded to comments suggesting wells as a more appropriate solution by dismissing them as impractical. Apparently Allegan County and Fillmore Township do not share their views.
